Being involved in a serious accident, a violent conflict, a natural disaster, or abuse in the home can be overwhelming for children. Such experiences can damage their sense of security and leave them feeling helpless and vulnerable. But the love of Jesus can help them overcome even the darkest experience.
Survivors follows the journey of a character called TREE who faces a traumatic event. Each session is designed to be led by a trained facilitator and helps children process their own experiences. This helps children develop emotional literacy and teaches them self-calming techniques. Survivors also encourages children to know that they were created by a God who loves them and cares for them.

A Crisis Response Resource
We cannot dismiss the trauma or hard life experiences that many children experience. But we can help them express their emotions in a healthy way and allow them to grieve their losses. We can give them practical strategies to cope with what is happening and assure them: They matter, and their feelings are normal. Through stories and Scripture engagement, children can experience an increased sense of God’s presence and find peace.
During our Bible study classes, we read Survivors and discussed it together. Most of the kids were not Christians, so the accessible text with simple illustrations helped us to have meaningful conversations. We talked about their fears, and we prayed together.

The Participant Handbook follows the story of Tree and its survival together with the lessons' content.
